[!screenshot_etusivu.png|align=right,title="More screenshots"!]

Agilefant is an easy-to-use open source software tool for managing software development projects and related activities. It brings together the perspectives of organizing daily work, long-term product and release planning and project portfolio management.

Agilefant's development is coordinated by the ATMAN research project conducted by the Software Process Research Group at the Helsinki University of Technology. Agilefant embodies the results and insights from some 70+ man-years of empirical software engineering research with tens of companies.

Agilefant has now been listed on UserStories.com. Though there still are quite few tools listed, and most of the reviews are quite clearly written by the advocates of the particular tools in question, the site has the potential to become the leader among sites listing tools. We will do our best to keep Agilefant visible up there, and hope it will be well-received by the community.

To our delight, the editors at the well-ranking IBM Systems Journal accepted both of the abstracts we sent regarding some of the key ideas and concepts behind Agilefant into the next round.

More info in the blog of the ATMAN research project.

Mike Cohn is setting up UserStories.com where those who work hands-on with the various product backlog / user story management tools can provide opinions. Not too many tools listed yet but on the rise. We recommend subscribing to its RSS feed.

TargetProcess (a commercial tool vendor) has added Agilefant to its site Agile Tools listing & evaluating several open source and free tools.

In the evaluation, Agilefant got four stars out of five, making it the top-ranked open source tool at the site (joint 1st place with XPlanner).

P.S. For those who read the review: in our opinion the only warranted cons mentioned in it are the lack of customization and no possibility to use story points. The rest are still under discussion with the review's author.
